How to say “work” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
إذا أبطأتك هموم الرزق، فاعمل بالأسباب واترك في قلبك فراغًا للثقة، فالقلق لا يزيد في الكيل حبةً واحدة
If worries about sustenance slow you down, act upon the means and leave space in your heart for trust, for anxiety does not add a single grain to the measure.
فَاعْمَلْ — so act upon. 'fa-' = 'so'; 'i'mal' = a command 'work!, act!'; 'you' is built in.
From: On Sincerity →وَأَنَّ الْعَمَلَ الَّذِي يُجَانِبُ مَرَادَ الشَّارِعِ بَاطِلٌ،
And that any action that goes against the intent of the Lawgiver is invalid.
الْعَمَلَ — the action. The 'al-' prefix marks this noun as definite, 'the' specific action under discussion. Although it heads the clause as its topic, it sits in the accusative here because the preceding 'anna' governs it; English would never change the shape of 'action' for this, but Arabic signals the subordination on the noun itself.
