Arabic vocabulary
How to say “young man” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فجعلت أن تقول متى تصديقًا لما أتى من الوعد يا فتى،
So she began to say, 'When will you believe what has come of the promise, O young man?'
فَتَى — young man. This is the one being called, the addressed person after the 'O', set in the vocative shape that direct address requires. The form signals he is spoken to rather than acting in the sentence, closing the quoted question to the young man.
