How to say “youth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
من كَانَ قرين النَّبِي فِي شبابه
Who was the Prophet's companion in his youth?
شَبَابِهِ — his youth. 'Youth' with '-hi' (his) attached, genitive after 'in'. The Prophet's young years, when Abu Bakr was already at his side.
From: Abu Bakr: First Champion of Islam →وَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا غَرَّهُمْ الشَّبَابُ،
And I saw many people whom youth had deceived,
الشَّبَابُ — youth. The al- marks this abstract noun as definite, and it is the postponed subject of the verb before it, the thing that did the deceiving, so it takes the doer-style nominative ending. It names youth itself as the deceiver in the relative clause.
