How to say “accompanied” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ونظيره قوله سبحان ﴿لا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلا هُمْ مِنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ﴾
And similar is His saying, the Exalted: 'They cannot aid themselves, nor are they supported by Us.'
يُصْحَبُونَ — are supported. This verb is passive: the subject receives the action of being accompanied or aided rather than doing it. Arabic marks the passive not with a helper word but by changing the internal vowels of the verb, so its shape signals 'are helped' while its plural ending carries the 'they' subject inside.
