Arabic vocabulary
How to say “al-Fadl” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لَمْ أَرَ أَبَرَّ مِنْ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْبَرْمَكِيِّ بِأَبِيهِ،
I have never seen anyone more dutiful to his father than al-Fadl ibn Yahya al-Barmaki.
الْفَضْلِ — al-Fadl. This is a proper name carrying al-, fixed in the genitive by the comparison 'than' standing before it. It is the benchmark the speaker measures dutifulness against. Its ending is governed by that preposition rather than by its role in the sentence's main action.
