وَقَدْ لَخَّصَهَا الشَّيْخُ عَلِيُّ الْطَنْطَاوِي فِي مُقَدِّمَةِ طَبْعَتِهِ لِصَيْدِ الْخَاطِرِ فَقَالَ
Sheikh Ali al-Tantawi had summarized it in the preface to his edition of Sayd al-Khatir and said:
الْطَنْطَاوِي — al-Tantawi. A 'belonging-to' surname formed from a place, identifying the man's origin and still describing the same subject. Such relation-adjectives are built by adding a fixed ending to a place or tribe name.
