أقسام ١ منهم من يحتج بأنه على تصحيح مذهبه وتقوية خاطره مع أنه لا يغلب على ظنه أن ذلك هو المراد بالآية وإنما يقصد الظهور على خصمه
Categories: 1 - Among them are those who argue to support their position and reinforce their view, even though they do not truly believe it is the intended meaning of the verse, but rather they aim to triumph over their opponent.
الظُّهُورَ — to triumph. An action-noun, 'the prevailing / showing-superior,' in the -a form as the object of 'aims.' This is all he truly wants — to come out on top, as the next phrase ('over his opponent') makes plain.

On the Day of Judgment, his inner state will be revealed, and judgment will be made accordingly.
وَالظُّهُورُ — and appearance. wa- (and) on a second definite noun in the subject ending, paired with 'the judgment' as a joint subject of the same verb: 'the judgment and the manifestation'. The conjunction ties the two as what comes to be.

ظُهُورُهُمْ — their emergence. This verbal noun names appearance or emergence, with an attached possessive pronoun, 'their emergence', and is the subject of 'was'. The owner pronoun points to the false claimants; the noun heads what is praised as evidence.
