How to say “appointed time” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَخَافَ فَوْتَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوِ الْوَقْتِ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ عَدُوُّهُ مِنْهُ مَا شَاءَ
He feared missing the prayer or its appointed time, and his enemy did not attain from him what he wanted.
الْوَقْتِ — the appointed time. A definite noun 'the (appointed) time', the second option after 'or', so it shares the object role with 'the prayer'. Its al- marks the prescribed time of that prayer. With 'or' before it, it completes 'the prayer or its time'.
From: Choosing Good Companions →إِلَى وَقْتِ طُوفَانِ نُوحِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
until the time of the Flood of Noah, peace be upon him.
وَقْتِ — time of. A noun ('time') heading an 'of' pairing ('time OF...'), sitting in the genitive ending under the preceding 'until'. It drops its own 'al-' and draws definiteness from the chain that follows, naming the moment the time-limit reaches.
