ثُمَّ رَأَى اِبْنُ الْجَوْزِيِ أَنَّ التَّصْنِيفُ فِي فَنِّ الْوَعْظِ يُكْمِلُ مَجَالِسَهُ؛
Then Ibn al-Jawzi held that writing in the art of preaching complements his sermons.
فَنِّ — the art. The first noun of an 'X of Y' possessive pairing, here 'the art of...'. Arabic builds such pairings by placing two nouns directly side by side with no separate word for 'of'; this first noun gives up any 'the' of its own and draws its definiteness from the owner-noun that follows.
