ثُمَّ رَأَى اِبْنُ الْجَوْزِيِ أَنَّ التَّصْنِيفُ فِي فَنِّ الْوَعْظِ يُكْمِلُ مَجَالِسَهُ؛
Then Ibn al-Jawzi held that writing in the art of preaching complements his sermons.
التَّصْنِيفُ — the writing. A verbal noun — an action packaged as a thing — naming the activity of authoring works. It is the subject of the inner 'that' clause, and although meaning-wise it is the doer, it wears the object-like ending because the heavy 'that' particle before it pulls it into that case.
