How to say “asked” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ مَا الْمَسْئُولُ عَنْهَا بِأَعْلَمَ مِنْ السَّائِلِ
He said, 'The one being asked does not know more about it than the one asking.'
الْمَسْئُولُ — the one being asked. The subject of the denial, a noun built from a passive participle 'the one asked', so it means the one who is questioned rather than the questioner. Carrying al- ('the'), it is definite and stands in the nominative as what the sentence is about. The passive sense is baked into the word's pattern.
