How to say “bad” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
والابتلاء بقرناء السوء الَّذين يفسدون الْقلب ويضيعون الْوَقْت
And the trial of bad companions who corrupt the heart and waste time.
السُّوءِ — bad. al- = 'the'; su means 'evil, bad'; joined to the previous word as an 'of…' phrase ('companions of evil' = bad companions).
From: Returning to God →والحور الْعين يعجبن من سوء اختيارك عَلَيْهِنَّ
And the wide-eyed maidens wonder at your poor choice over them.
سُوءِ — poor. 'Badness / poorness', first term of an 'of' pairing — 'the badness of your choice' — genitive after 'at'. It owns the noun that follows.
From: Overcoming Desire →ولا ترجع إلى أرضك فإنها أرض سوءٍ،
And do not return to your land, for it is a land of evil.
سُوءٍ — of evil. This completes 'a land of evil', in the genitive as owner. Arabic says 'an evil land' as 'a land of evil', an 'of' pairing rather than an adjective. So his homeland is branded a place of corruption.
