Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be eaten” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ليؤكل في الصيف البارد، وفي الشتاء الحار إدخال طعام على طعام آخر رديء
Cold foods should be eaten in the summer, and hot foods in the winter; introducing food upon another food is bad.
لِيُؤْكَلَ — should be eaten. This is li- 'so that / let it be' prefixed to a verb in the passive voice, 'be eaten'. The li- pushes the verb into its purpose-or-command shape, and the passive means the food is what gets eaten, not the eater, marked by the inner vowel pattern rather than a helper word.
