How to say “bed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَعْلَنَ التَّائِبُونَ بِالصِّيَاحِ، وَتَسَاقَطُوا عَلَيْهِ تَسَاقُطُ الْفِرَاشِ عَلَى الْمِصْبَاحِ،
The repentant cried out, and they fell upon him like moths falling on a lamp.
الْفِرَاشِ — the moths. A noun made definite by al- 'the', standing in the genitive as the second half of a possessive pairing with the verbal noun before it: 'the falling of the moths'. Arabic builds 'X of Y' by setting the two nouns side by side, so this genitive ending is what supplies the 'of'.
