How to say “but” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَكِن الشَّأْن فِي عمرك وَهُوَ وقتك الَّذِي بَين الْوَقْتَيْنِ
But the matter is in your life, which is your present time between the two periods.
وَلَكِنَّ — but indeed. This 'but' is the heavier kind that, like the emphatic 'inna', forces its following subject into the accusative. It pivots the argument: not the past or future, 'but' the present is where the matter lies.
