How to say “closer” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا تطلبني من غَيْرك فَأَنا أقرب إِلَيْك مِنْهُ
And do not seek Me from anyone else, for I am closer to you than them.
أَقْرَبُ — closer. A comparative / elative 'nearer', the predicate, nominative — 'I am nearer'. The elative form (one shape for 'more / most') sets up the comparison.
From: Remembering and Loving God →فَهَذَا أقرب الْخلق إِلَيْهِ
So this one is the closest of creation to Him.
أَقْرَبُ — closest. An elative, 'nearest', heading an 'of' pairing, 'the nearest of creation', as the predicate. The elative pattern turns 'near' into 'most near'; set bare before its partner it needs no 'of'.
