Arabic vocabulary
How to say “cloth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ثم أخرج طفلًا يتنقل من خرق القماط إلى خز الخزوز،
Then He brought forth a child who moves from swaddling clothes to silk garments.
خِرْقِ — swaddling clothes. In the genitive because 'from' governs it, this noun heads a possessive pairing, 'the rags of swaddling', so it stays bare of 'the' and draws definiteness from the owner that follows. It names the humble starting state of the child.
