How to say “come” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أرسل إليه ملك من ملوك اليونان بقناطير من الذهب حتى يسير إليه فأبى،
A king from among the kings of Greece sent to him loads of gold so that he would come to him, but he refused.
يَسِيرَ — he would come. This verb sits in the subjunctive because of the purpose-particle before it, which is why its ending is shortened. It expresses the hoped-for outcome, his travelling, rather than something that happened.
