Arabic vocabulary
How to say “refused” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أرسل إليه ملك من ملوك اليونان بقناطير من الذهب حتى يسير إليه فأبى،
A king from among the kings of Greece sent to him loads of gold so that he would come to him, but he refused.
فَأَبى — so he refused. The 'fa-' here marks the turn in the story, and the verb 'refused' carries its own subject 'he', referring to Hippocrates. The connector signals the result that frustrates the king's intent.
