Arabic vocabulary
How to say “ears” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلُهُمْ لِلْحِيطَانِ آذَانٌ، مَذْكُورٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّاعُونَ لَهُمْ
And their saying: 'Walls have ears' is mentioned in His saying: 'And among you are listeners to them.'
آذَانٌ — ears. This is 'ears', a plural, indefinite, the thing said to belong to the walls. In the 'to the walls belong ears' frame it is the delayed subject and takes the nominative. The plural is folded into the word's own shape. It completes the proverb 'walls have ears'.
