How to say “escape” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَكِن أَيْن الْفِرَار
But where is the escape?
الْفِرَارُ — the escape. The subject of the 'where is X' question, nominative ('-u'), definite — 'the fleeing'. Where can flight be found? Nowhere.
From: The Prophet's Refuge in the Cave →فمجاهدتها أشق من مجاهدة العدو الظاهر؛ لأن العدو الظاهر يمكن الفرار منه أو قهره، وأما النفس فملازمة للإنسان لا تفارقه
So struggling against it is harder than struggling against a visible enemy; for a visible enemy can be escaped or conquered, but the self is ever-present with the person and does not leave him.
الفِرَارُ — the escape. This is the subject of 'is possible', placed after the verb, so it stands in the subject case, 'the escape is possible'. With 'the' it is definite, naming the option open against a visible foe.
