Arabic vocabulary
How to say “faints” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِ، فَيُرْفَعُ فِي الْأَذْرُعِ إِلَيْهِ،
And among them someone faints, and he is then lifted in the arms to him.
يُغْشَى — faints. This verb is in the passive: the person does not faint by his own doing but has fainting come over him, with the cause unnamed. Arabic does not add a helper like 'is/was'; it marks the passive by changing the vowels inside the verb itself, which is why it looks close to its active twin.
