How to say “follows” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَمَّا الْعَاقِلُ فَإِنَّهُ يَنْهَى نَفْسَهُ عَنْ لَذَّةٍ تُعَقِّبُ أَلَمًا
As for the rational person, he restrains himself from pleasure that is followed by pain.
تُعَقِّبُ — it follows. A present-tense verb running the clause that describes the pleasure; 'it' (feminine, the pleasure) is built in. The doubled middle consonant marks the 'follow closely on the heels of' verb pattern.
