So Abu Bakr kept his self near the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, for his companionship.
لِصُحْبَتِهِ — for his companionship. A preposition 'for' heading a noun that has 'his' fused onto its end; the prepositional phrase gives the reason Abu Bakr stayed, 'for his companionship'. The attached -hu (whose companionship) refers to the Prophet, and the noun takes the genitive after the preposition.
