Arabic vocabulary
How to say “forbid” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لا يأمرهم ولا ينهاهم ولا يرشدهم إلى ما ينفعهم ويحذرهم ما يضرهم
Not commanding them, nor forbidding them, nor guiding them to what benefits them, nor warning them of what harms them.
يَنْهَاهُمْ — forbids them. A present-tense verb meaning he forbids, with its subject 'he' carried inside the form and the object 'them' attached at the end. The long stem vowel here belongs to a verb whose root ends weak, so its shape differs slightly from a fully sound verb while the grammar stays the same.
