How to say “honesty” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
النفس تُروَّض بالصدق مع اللحظة لا بالشعارات
The soul is tamed through honesty with the moment, not through slogans.
بِالصِّدْقِ — through honesty. 'bi-' = 'with, through'; 'al-' = 'the'; 'sidq' = 'truthfulness', so 'through truthfulness'.
From: On Sincerity →ثم أقام سبحانه البرهان القاطع على صدق رسوله
Then He, Exalted, established the decisive proof of the truthfulness of His Messenger.
صِدْقِ — truthfulness. This noun, truthfulness, sits in the genitive both because the preposition demands it and because it heads a possessive pairing with the next word. It owns 'the messenger' in an 'of' relationship made by placing the nouns side by side.
From: False Prophets →وكذلك الصدق والأمانة والبر والإحسان، وإن كانت تكلف الإنسان مشقة، فإنها ترفع قدره، وتزيد في حسناته
Similarly, truthfulness, trustworthiness, righteousness, and benevolence, though they cost effort, elevate one's status and increase his good deeds.
الصِّدْقُ — truthfulness. The first item of the new list-topic, 'truthfulness', set up for a shared comment later. It carries the subject ending and its 'the' marks the definite virtue.
From: Facing God's Tests →وَلَا يَزَالُ الرَّجُلُ يَصْدُقُ وَيَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ صَدِيقًا
And a man continues to tell the truth and to seek truthfulness until he is recorded with God as a truthful person.
الصِّدْقَ — the truthfulness. A definite noun 'the truthfulness' as the direct object of 'seeks', in the object case marked by a final -a. The case ending identifies it as what the seeking is aimed at.
From: Truthfulness and Righteousness →فَأَخْبِرْ النَّبِيَّ أَنَّ الصِّدْقَ يَسْتَلْزِمُ الْبِرَّ
So inform the Prophet that truthfulness entails righteousness.
الصِّدْقَ — the truthfulness. The noun 'truthfulness' is the subject of the reported clause, yet the preceding 'that' particle puts it in the object case, heard as a final -a. The doer wears an object-looking ending only because of the particle.
From: Truthfulness and Righteousness →ذِكْرُ الصِّدْقِ وَالإِخْلَاصِ
The mention of truthfulness and sincerity.
الصِّدْقِ — the truthfulness. A definite noun 'truthfulness' completing 'mention of' as its owner, in the genitive. It names what is mentioned, the second half of the possessive pair.
From: Truthfulness and Righteousness →وَيَقُولُونَ الصِّدْقُ سَيْفُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ
And they say, "Truthfulness is the sword of Allah on the earth."
الصِّدْقُ — the truth. This is a noun carrying 'the', which in Arabic locks it as a specific, known thing rather than just any example. Here that definiteness lifts it to an abstract capital-T 'Truthfulness' and lets it stand as the topic the sentence is about. It is the thing being equated with the sword in what follows.
