How to say “humiliation” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وهبوطه إِلَى دَار الذل والهوان
And his descent to the abode of lowliness and humiliation.
وَالْهَوَانِ — and humiliation. This is 'and' joined to 'humiliation', definite, paired with the previous noun as a second owned quality of the abode, 'lowliness and humiliation'. The 'and' coordinates the two, and this noun shares the genitive role. It deepens the description of that place.
From: Adam's Warning →وَمَا ذَٰلِكَ لِهَوَانِهِمْ عَلَيْهِ،
And that is not because of their belittling upon Him,
لِهَوَانِهِمْ — for their belittling of them. The li- prefix is a preposition meaning 'because of / due to', governing the noun it attaches to, and tacked onto the end is -him, the 'their' possessor, so one word means 'because of their lowliness'. The li- marks the cause being denied. The possessor folds the owners into the noun.
