فَتَعَيَّنَ عَلَيْنَا الْفَحْصُ عَنِ الْكَبَائِرِ مَا هِيَ لِكَيْ يَجْتَنِبَهَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ
Therefore, it is necessary for us to investigate which are the major sins so that Muslims can avoid them.
الْفَحْصُ — the investigation. A noun with 'the', the thing that becomes incumbent, here the real subject of the obligation-verb: 'the investigating'. Its subject ending marks it as what is required.
