فَتَعَيَّنَ عَلَيْنَا الْفَحْصُ عَنِ الْكَبَائِرِ مَا هِيَ لِكَيْ يَجْتَنِبَهَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ
Therefore, it is necessary for us to investigate which are the major sins so that Muslims can avoid them.
لِكَيْ — so that. A purpose particle, 'so that', that does grammatical work: it pulls the verb after it into a special 'aim' shape, marking what follows as the intended goal rather than a fact.

And His saying in Al-Hadid: 'So that you do not despair over what has passed you by, nor rejoice over what He has given you.'
لِكَيْلَا — so that you do not. A compound made of 'for/to' plus a negative purpose particle, giving 'so that... not'. It opens a purpose clause and forces the verb after it into the subjunctive shape, marking the goal aimed at.
