Arabic vocabulary
How to say “it was narrated” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَحُكِيَ عَنْ الْجُنَيْدِ رَحْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ
And it was narrated about al-Junayd, may God have mercy upon him, that he said:
وحُكيَ — and it was narrated. Opens with a narrative 'wa-' carrying the account along, fused to a passive past verb: the story is the thing told, with no named teller, the action landing on the report. Arabic marks the passive by reshaping internal vowels, not by a helper word. So one piece both links and frames 'and it was recounted'.
