Arabic vocabulary
How to say “kill” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ هَلْ أَنْتَ ذَاهِبٌ فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ مَا بِي أَنْ أَقْتُلَ
He said, "Are you going?" I said, "By God, I have no intention of killing."
أَقْتُلَ — kill. This verb sits in its 'aim' (subjunctive) shape because the particle just before it forces that ending, marking the action as an intended goal, not something happening. Its 'I' doer is built into the prefix. Reading the special ending is how you know this is the purpose being denied.
