The vigil of the guards became easy when they knew their voices reached the king's ears.
الْمَلِكِ — the king. The owner completing 'the hearing of the king', genitive, definite. The sovereign whose ear caught their voices, making the watch light.

بِالْمُلُوكِ — by the kings. This noun carries 'the' and is plural, naming kings, with the preposition 'with/by' fused to its front, so 'by the kings'. The preposition marks the supposed instrument of refutation, governing the noun into the prepositional form.
