المَحْيَا — life. Genitive owner of 'trial' — 'living, life'; its long final vowel is case-proof; 'the trial of life'.

الْمَحْيَا — life. The owner-noun completing 'trial of life', sitting directly after its pair-word with no 'of' between them. Its form is a place/time noun built from the root for living, here standing for the whole span of being alive.
