How to say “livelihood” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وإن جعل الطلب له مأكله ودكانا ، فالأعمال بالنيات ،
And if he makes seeking knowledge his means of livelihood and business, then actions are judged by intentions,
مَأْكَلَهُ — means of livelihood. This noun, 'his means of eating, his livelihood', carries the attached -hu 'his' and is the second object of the 'made' verb, in the object ending: he made the seeking into his livelihood. The -hu ties it back to him, and the object ending marks it as what the seeking became.
