مَوْلَاهُ — his master. 'mawla' = 'master, patron'; '-hu' = 'his', so 'his master'.
From: Luqman's Response to Injustice →كان أبوه مولى لرجل من الأنصار،
His father was a freedman of a man from the Ansar.
مَوْلًى — a freedman. This noun is the predicate of 'was', telling what the father was, so it takes the object form the copula assigns. Its ending marks it indefinite, 'a freedman'.
