How to say “one” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَمَا حَظُّ الْوَاحِدِ مِنْ هَؤُلاَءِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْمَعَ لِيَرْوِيَ فَقَطْ
As for any one of them, his lot is only to listen so that he may narrate.
الْوَاحِدِ — the one. This noun carries 'al-' (the) and completes the possessive pairing as the owner: 'the lot of the (single) one'. It sits in the 'of...' (genitive) shape that the pairing requires, and being definite it makes the whole 'X of Y' phrase definite too.
