Arabic vocabulary
How to say “only” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَمَا حَظُّ الْوَاحِدِ مِنْ هَؤُلاَءِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْمَعَ لِيَرْوِيَ فَقَطْ
As for any one of them, his lot is only to listen so that he may narrate.
فَقَطْ — only. This is a restricting word meaning 'only / nothing more', and its grammatical job is to cap the preceding statement, shutting the door on any further possibility. It is a fixed, unchanging form that does not take case endings, and it lands at the end to clamp the whole idea down to that single purpose.
