Arabic vocabulary
How to say “painful” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَالْيَوْمَ أُذِيقُكُمْ أَلِيمَ عِقَابِي مَعَ مَا حَرَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ جَزِيلِ ثَوَابِي
So today I will let you taste My painful punishment along with what I have deprived you of My generous reward.
أَلِيمَ — painful. A describing word, 'painful', set before the noun it qualifies and matched to it in the object ending. Here it leans forward onto 'My punishment', the agonising quality of what is made to be tasted.
