Arabic vocabulary
How to say “place to lie down” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَامَ الْفَضْلُ حِينَ أَخَذَ يَحْيَى مِضْجَعَهُ إِلَى قُمْقُمٍ كَانَ بِالسِّجْنِ،
Al-Fadl rose when Yahya took his sleeping mat to a vessel in the prison.
مِضْجَعَهُ — his sleeping mat. This noun has the 'his' pronoun glued onto its end, marking the bed as belonging to Yahya. Arabic fixes possession by suffixing the owner straight onto the noun, with no separate 'his'. It stands as the thing taken in the sub-event.
