وَقِيلَ يَعِدُكُمْ الْفَقْرُ فِي طَلَبِ فَوْقَ الْكَفَافِ
And it was said: poverty will befall you when you seek beyond what suffices.
الْفقر — poverty. The noun 'poverty', made definite by al- ('the'), here the doer of the warning-verb, so it is the subject and stands in the plain nominative ending. Named after its verb, it identifies what it is that befalls.
