Arabic vocabulary
How to say “precede” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
انطلق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابه حتى سبقوا المشركين إلى بدر وجاء المشركون،
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his companions set out until they reached Badr before the polytheists, and the polytheists came.
سَبَقُوا — they reached before. A past-tense verb with the 'they' subject built into its ending, 'they outran/got there first'. The plural is inside the verb's form, needing no separate 'they'; it names the result reached, beating the others to Badr.
