How to say “repay” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَنَّهُ مَهْمَا بَالَغَ فِي بِرِّهِمَا لَمْ يَفْ بِشُكْرِهِمَا
However much he went to great lengths to be dutiful to them, he did not repay them with thanks.
يَفْ — repay. This verb is a hollowed, clipped form because the past-negation particle before it forces the jussive, trimming its tail down to a bare stub. That shrunken shape is the visible grip of the 'did not' particle. Together they deny that he ever fully repaid, the point the concession was building toward.
