Arabic vocabulary
How to say “replied” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ فَتَكَلَّمَتْ عَائِشَةُ تَرُدُّ عَلَى زَيْنَبِ،
He said, and then Aisha spoke, replying to Zaynab.
تَرُدُّ — she replied. A present-shape verb running alongside the main action to describe how she spoke ('replying'); it sets the manner rather than starting a new event. Arabic frequently uses this unfinished form for a simultaneous, descriptive action where English would use an '-ing' word.
