فَعَرَضَ ضِيَاعَهُ عَلَى الْبَيْعِ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَنَافَسُونَ فِيهَا
So he offered his possessions for sale, and people were competing for them.
الْبَيْعِ — the sale. A definite noun in the genitive after the preposition, naming the act of selling. It is the footing the estates were offered on.
