Arabic vocabulary
How to say “seriousness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الَّذِي يَكْسِبُهَا نَشَاطًا لِلْجِدِّ فَكَأَنَّهَا مِنَ الْجِدِّ لَمْ تَزَلْ،
which gives it a zeal for seriousness, so that it seems to have always been serious.
الْجِدِّ — seriousness. The al- makes this definite, 'the' seriousness, the specific abstract quality. Sitting after the preposition, it takes the genitive ending that prepositions impose, marking it as the category in the 'as if from seriousness' phrase.
