How to say “sky” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فأقسم سبحانه بالسماء ذات المطر والأرض ذات النبات
Then Allah swore by the sky with its rain and the earth with its plants.
بِالسَّمَاءِ — by the sky. A preposition bi- fused onto the definite noun 'the sky', so one chunk means 'by the sky'. After an oath verb this bi- is the special 'I swear by' marker, and it forces the genitive ending; the al- makes the sky a known, definite thing.
