Arabic vocabulary
نَوَافِل is how you say “supererogatory” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
وجاز الجمعُ به بين فريضةٍ ونوافلَ،
It is permissible to combine an obligatory prayer with supererogatory prayers using it.
وَنَوَافِلَ — and supererogatory prayers. A broken plural, 'and voluntary prayers' — and a 'diptote,' a word that refuses the light '-in': as the second term after 'between' it shows -a where you would expect the -i ending. That odd ending marks a whole class of plurals. So: one obligatory plus several optional prayers may share a tayammum.
