Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the mother” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَدْ تَحَمَّلَتْ الْأُمُّ بِحِمْلِهِ أَثْقَالًا كَثِيرَةً،
Indeed, the mother bore many heavy burdens in carrying him.
الْأُمُّ — the mother. This noun carries al- 'the' and is the subject of 'bore', wearing the subject-style -u ending that marks her as the doer. Arabic places the subject after its verb here, and the -u ending is what identifies it as the agent. So 'the mother' is the one who endured the burdens.
