Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the old age,” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ إِنَّ لِيَّ أُمًّا بَلَغَ بِهَا الْكِبَرُ،
He said, "I have a mother who has reached old age,"
الْكِبَرُ — the old age,. This noun carries al- 'the' and is the subject of 'reached / came upon', wearing the subject-style -u ending that marks it as the doer. Arabic places the subject after its verb here, and the -u ending identifies old age as the thing that came upon her. So 'old age' is grammatically what arrived.
