Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the unresponsive” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَبْكَى الصَّخْرُ الأَصَمُّ بِمَا يَقُصُّ مِنْ وَصْفِ الآخِرَةِ وَأَهْوَالِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
He made even the unresponsive rock weep by what he recounted of the description of the Hereafter and the terrors of the Day of Resurrection.
الأصم — the unresponsive. An adjective, 'the unresponsive/deaf', standing in apposition to 'the rock' and matching it in being definite and in case — Arabic makes describing words copy their noun's definiteness and case. That agreement marks it as the rock's epithet, heightening the image of even deaf stone weeping.
